What is Mental Model?
Jay W. Forrester has defined the mental model as follows:
Everyone instinctively uses models to make decisions in their personal and business lives. A model is a mental image that you have in your head of the world and carry it with you.
We do not fit a city, a state or a country in our brains. Rather, we simply record a selection of concepts and the relationship between them in our minds. Every mental image is a model. All our decisions are made based on these models. All laws are passed based on these models. All actions of managers are based on these models.

Mental models are the glasses we wear and see the world through. What makes us different, before the difference in knowledge and talent, is the difference in attitude and modeling that we do from our previous knowledge and experiences and from what we hear and see from others.
